The
Boston Dance Alliance supports and promotes the health and development
of the Greater Boston dance community by providing direct services
to local dancers, choreographers, dance teachers and dance organizations.
BDA seeks to improve the work environment for dance and increase
the visibility, understanding of and access to local dance.
Established
in 1985, Boston Dance Alliance is Boston's largest official organization
dealing with issues of importance to the local and regional dance
community. Our members include individual dancers, dance organizations,
technical artists and individuals who are committed to the presentation
and enjoyment of the art form. BDA strengthens bonds within the local
dance community and provides important links between the local community
and the larger world of dance. Our goal in developing the dance community
is to increase and improve communication with funding organizations,
educational organizations, technical service professionals and the
public sector. We accomplish this in a variety of ways:
Acting
as an advocate for the dance community and serving as a catalyst
to air the community's concerns to a wide range of important
audiences. The audiences include but are not limited to funding
organizations, the general public, elected officials, government
agencies and trade associations.
Serving
as an aggregate voice for the greater Boston dance community
and using that voice in connection with other arts service
organizations, such as lobbyist groups, marketing and development
organizations, and others, to provide a greater impact when
necessary.
Facilitating
an exchange of information about opportunities and resources
available to artists and others working in dance.
Making
available to members a variety of professional development
workshops geared toward expanding the knowledge base of artists
and others working in dance.
Serving
as a central repository of dance archival information.
Our
ongoing projects include:
BDAs
annual Greater Boston Dance Directory lists all individual
and organizational BDA members, as well as providing detailed
descriptions of rehearsal and performance facilities, and
studios and schools offering open classes.
