CALL TO DANCE ARTISTS
2009/10 Boston Dance Alliance Rehearsal and Retreat Fellowship
Application Deadline: November 16, 2009

What is the BDA Rehearsal and Retreat Fellowship?
The BDA Rehearsal and Retreat Fellowship combines a three day creative/rehearsal retreat for a choreographer and his/her dancers with additional funding to pay dancers during an extended rehearsal period. Two applicants will be selected for the second year of this project.

The BDA Rehearsal and Retreat Fellowship’s goals are to strengthen artists’ work by giving them uninterrupted time to focus on their choreography. We intend that providing rehearsal pay to dancers will enable choreographers to increase the number of hours of rehearsal which will lead to more fully realized work. The ultimate goal is to have an impact on the quality of work created in Greater Boston.

Selected participants will have the opportunity to determine when during the creation of new work a three day retreat will prove the most beneficial to the choreographic process. While BDA has set a suggested minimum hourly fee for the dancers, this is open to some negotiation with the participants.

When and where is the BDA Rehearsal and Retreat Fellowship?
The BDA Rehearsal and Retreat Fellowships will take place between January and September 2010. The retreats will be held either at Mass MoCA in western Massachusetts or at a similar site.

Who is the BDA Rehearsal and Retreat Fellowship for?
The BDA Rehearsal and Retreat Fellowships are designed for dance makers working in contemporary forms living in Greater Boston who:
· Have achieved local or regional recognition
· Have produced a complete program of their own work
· Are ready to determine next steps in sharing/presenting their work within and beyond their current communities
· Have a group of professional adult dancers who will commit to all of the dates of the retreat and rehearsal period
· Have a current BDA membership

Award
Selected artists will receive an honorarium up to $6,120, plus support for travel, housing and meals at the retreat site. NOTE: The money may be used only to pay dancers and the choreographer and may not be used to pay any other expenses associated with producing performances. The honorarium is partially based upon the number of dancers involved.
