The Perfect Relationship: A Dance Concert of Duets tells the story of an evolving relationship between a man and a woman: from the innocence of their first joyous if unreal love, through disappointment and disconnection. Out of this disillusionment springs the beginning of true trust, and the intersection of sensuality and spirituality, ultimately giving birth to their creation of a purposeful loving union. This is an evening length work consisting of six pieces, each with its own distinctive style and mood. The pieces, with live music, weave together to form a continuing story. The music ranges from original commissioned instrumental works, to blues and Indian music, much of it performed live by a group of musicians including guitarists, tabla, bass, violin, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and vocalists.

Ouramdane, a French choreographer of Algerian descent, took a journey to Vietnam and Cambodia, where his father had fought in the 1950s as an Algerian conscript in the French army. The journey inspired Distant, a work that explores the idea of being a foreigner as a colonialist, as the colonized, and as an immigrant. His use of masks, images, sounds, and movement electrify his solo performances with an effect that "is surprisingly complex." - The New York Times.
