Martha’s Artist Salon – History of Black Dance in Boston

Kay Bourne & Adrienne Hawkins will share glimpses into the history of African-American and Black dancers who have lived, presently live, and came through Boston over decades and their connection to dance in Boston today. From Doris Jones, DC transplant, to Talley Beatty choreographer for Alvin Ailey and a pioneer in the use of Horton Technique, to Keith Saunders Artistic Director of Dance Theater of Harlem, to Carlton Jones assistant to Paula Abdul and dancer in many of Janet Jackson’s videos. Kay & Adrienne will discuss the history of theses dancers, their influence throughout the world and their legacy with the companies, dancers, and teachers who have followed and continued their love of dance in the city of Boston.
