Responding to the Closing of Green Street

Boston Dance Alliance is saddened by the news that Green Street Studios Center for Movement and Dance in Cambridge will be closing at the end of October. While the building’s rental situation has been complicated for years, many people have worked hard to retain this space  as a community resource.

Green Street’s official closing is a shock, and will displace many dance activities that will now be scrambling for a new resources.

Here are ways Boston Dance Alliance can help.

Need space for classes, rehearsals or performances? Your first stop should be Spacefinder Mass  which lists spaces in most Boston neighborhoods, Cambridge, Somerville, and beyond. There are spaces in theatres, community centers, and even athletic settings that you may not have considered but will suit your projects, if only temporarily. Do you have a space that is not yet listed in Spacefinder? This is exactly the time to post your information.

A good short list of potential rehearsal spaces is posted with the information on Next Steps for Boston Dance

Are you a BDA member? There is subsidized rehearsal space at the Lyric Stage space at Back Bay Station for rehearsals, pending availability. (The space cannot be used for classes or performances) Contact Lauren Corcuera,  lauren_corcuera@lyricstage.com

Have access to a space that is not up to the standards dancers need? Boston Dance Alliance can rent you our portable dance floor for performances but also for workshops and classes. Given this emergency, we may be able to offer discounts starting in November.

Boston Dance Alliance has contacts across the area, and across different communities. Let us know what you need, and we will try to bring new partnerships and resources to bear.
