Gumdrops & the Funny Uncle was created to offer a way for those who might identify alternatively with the idea of belonging, being of multiple families or celebrating families of choice. Conceived of by Peter DiMuro, “Funny Uncle” was originally created as a touring project for Liz Lerman Dance Exchange.

All of us have the potential to feel we are “outside” the norm and the holidays can often intensify feelings of inclusion and exclusion. Building on a series of workshops he offered ,”Coming Out for Straight People and Their Friends”, Peter believed there was strength in the process of active belonging, of choosing one’s circle , that could also be a learning and questioning tool among others who feel other.
