AXIS Artistic Director/choreographer Marc Brew and AXIS Dancers will share the creative tools, improvisation scores and exercises the company draws on to create dance composition for disabled and non-disabled dancers. The company draws from a rich history of the last 30 years and the numerous choreographers the company has had the pleasure to collaborate with including Bill T. Jones, Stephan Petronio and Meredith Monk, to name a few.
Aspects of dance choreography will include the compositional use of organic unity, rhythmic or non-rhythmic articulation, theme and variation, and repetition. The choreographic process will employ improvisation for the purpose of developing innovative movement ideas. Students will also learn material from existing AXIS repertoire. This workshop is intended for dancers with and without disabilities who have at least an intermediate level of dance training.
Online registration is recommended as space is limited. Various discounts available.
