About the Workshop: Clancy’s modern technique draws from her extensive performance career with Bella Lewitzky, Nora Reynolds, Liz Lerman and Bill Evans Dance Companies. Her high energy class involves athletic movement, dynamic floorwork, interesting gesture phrases and combinations to push each dancer to travel through the space. With an acute awareness of anatomy and kinesiology, the workshop focuses on building a strong and sound physical body while stretching and strengthening performance aspects of focus, clarity and efficiency in movement execution.

About Adrienne Clancy & ClancyWorks: Founding & Artistic Director of ClancyWorks Dance Company, Adrienne Clancy is a proclaimed “wizard of invention,” by the Washington Post. As a “tour de force of unpredictable partnering,” her work explores architecturally informed partnering developed amongst diverse artists. Assured to be simultaneously dynamic yet extremely human, the choreography exemplifies an environment of mutual respect and creates images that embrace diversity and community awareness. Her choreography has been performed internationally in England, Colombia, Paraguay, Israel, Mexico, Japan, and Poland.

ClancyWorks Dance Company is an ensemble of contemporary dance artists, based in Washington, DC and founded in 2001. The company presents award winning dance performances and offers high quality arts in education programs throughout the MD/PA/NJ/DC area. Adrienne Clancy creates choreography that features dynamic partnering work and reflects her powerful aesthetic and social vision, to form trust within a framework of diversity. The company's outstanding skill lies in its ability to combine physically demanding, powerful movement with the sensitive portrayal of cultural nuances and personal emotions.

About Auditioning: Those interested in working with ClancyWorks are invited to use the workshop as an audition opportunity with the Company. Dancers interested in auditioning should have a strong background in contemporary/modern dance with an interest in partnering and exploring ideas analytically as well as physically. Dancers are encouraged to look at our videos in order to get a better sense of our work:

In addition to formal concerts (around 10 each season), ClancyWorks Dance Company conducts a series of Arts in Education Residencies and School Assemblies (50+ in 2014) throughout the Greater Washington, DC area. Dancers are paid at a competitive wage for rehearsals and performances, and have the opportunity to earn more funds through teaching in our Arts-In Ed Programs for K-12 students. Development and teacher training also available.

Callbacks involve a longer period of choreographic exploration and repertory with the company.
