2019 BDA Dance Champions Announced!

Boston Dance Alliance is delighted to share the news that Tony Williams has been named 2019 Dr. Michael Shannon Dance Champion and Duggan Hill is this year’s BDA Unsung Hero recipient! Both men have demonstrated in their years of service to the community that dance can truly change lives.

Tony is a long-time pillar of Boston’s dance community, from his early years as founding member and the first black male principal dancer of the Boston Ballet to his return to Boston and running his own dance studios in Jamaica Plain and  Concord, MA. He  is perhaps best known for creating Urban Nutcracker. His current company, City Ballet of Boston, made its debut at the BCA earlier this year.

Duggan may be “unsung” and unknown to many in the Boston dance community, but his influence as founder of Boston City Lights Performing Arts Center in Boston’s South End has been felt by generations of children who have received free education in dance, singing, acting, instrumental music, video and sound editing, scene design, graphic arts, and photography.  The training and encouragement continues at City Lights North, Duggan’s summer dance camp in Farmington, Maine.
