Since 1986, José Mateo Ballet Theatre has helped thousands of hard-working young dancers quickly make critical breakthroughs in their technical and artistic development during the Summer Intensive Program. Students will discover untapped potential, express themselves in new ways, and reach unexpected levels of achievement during their five weeks at JMBT.
In a welcoming environment with a staff of dedicated, expert instructors, students will experience rigorous ballet training in small class sizes that will ensure surprising growth. The curriculum also features the choreography of Founder and Artistic Director José Mateo, the only company to commission and perform his works. Ethnic and cultural dance will also return this year in the form of African, Flamenco and Greek dance – a highlight of each dancer’s experience at JMBT’s Summer Intensive Program.
Dancers are encouraged to join us for the entire five-week program, but have the option to do only four weeks. Financial aid is available

For the serious ballet dancer ready to push towards a new level of artistic excellence, JMBT’s revamped Summer Intensive Program seeks to develop the next generation of promising young dancers right in the heart of Harvard Square, Cambridge. During this four week program, dancers will receive high-level dance education from expert instructors in small class sizes, focusing on training, expression, and connection, to foster a holistic dancer in today’s global world.

Dancers can expect to quickly make critical breakthroughs in their technical and artistic development through the guidance of our expert faculty. In a welcoming environment emphasizing diversity and inclusion, daily classes include ballet technique, pointe, repertoire, variations, and contemporary dance techniques, in addition to curated workshops and guest masterclasses.
