A special celebration of National Tap Dance Day will take place in Arlington on Thursday, May 25th, when trailblazing dancer, choreographer and author Brenda Bufalino brings her one-woman show, “Blue Heron Flies and it Startles Me Out of My Slumber,” to the Regent Theatre (www.regenttheatre.com).
Bufalino, an international tap artist known for her solo work and her award-winning choreography for the American Tap Dance Orchestra, will present an evening of original music, poetry, improvisation, and jazz standards. Longtime collaborators Paul Arslanian and Joe Fonda will accompany her on piano and bass. From her early performances with master tap dancers such as Charles “Honi” Coles and the Nicholas Brothers to her years as an in-demand teacher and choreographer at tap festivals worldwide, her career has spanned over six decades. Now 85, Bufalino continues to perform, create new works and and mentor young dancemakers.
