Kizuna Dance: An Evening of Mixed Repertory
Kizuna Dance is pleased to announce its formal Boston premiere performance season. The company presents a mixed repertory concert featuring works from across the company’s five year history. All works in the company’s repertory are inspired by various aspects of the Japanese language and culture, ranging from Zen Buddhism to film to the 2011 Tohoku natural disasters. The company’s 2019-2020 season will include E.X.P.L.O.D.E, inspired by the seminal 1988 animated film AKIRA; Rebirth, a hyperphysical interpolation of visual artist Manabu Ikeda’s work of the same name; KYOSHO, the company’s first guest commissioned work by LAJAMARTIN; and a new commissioned work by Hannah Garner. Artistic Director Cameron McKinney’s movement language blends a streetdance background with capoeira and contemporary floorwork to create scenes of organized chaos and structured impulsivity. Kizuna Dance is an international repertory ensemble that blends streetdance with contemporary floorwork.
