Originally organized by writer Eva Yaa Asantewaa, the collective Skeleton Architecture first came together to perform at Danspace Project last fall, around the theme of dance as a healing force. Inspired by the Audre Lorde essay “Poetry is Not a Luxury,” the evening was organized to “highlight the power of Black womyn within community.”

Skeleton Architecture will reconvene at the ICA this summer in conjunction with Summer Stages Dance @ the ICA/Boston, with 24 leading black performing artists from Boston and New York. Representing different generations and dance genres, the artists will gather for a weeklong investigation of the collaborative process, creative strategies, and improvisational practices that will culminate in an informal performance called the future of our worlds.

In addition to the performance Skeleton Architecture will also offer a series of public workshops called we (been) here on Saturday, July 22.
