Queer Tango Series: Join queer folk and their allies for Monday night tango classes with Boston Tango teachers! Monday drop-in classes, starting August 22 and ending December 5. No classes on August 29 or September 5.

Thryn Saxon teaches a one-time-only masterclass at Windhover Center for the Performing Arts, Rockport. Concepts include catch and release, isolation and articulation, and gut-initiated movement. Tuesday, August 23, 8:30-10:00 AM.

 

Summer Salsa in the Park participants learn the basics of salsa, or practice their moves with dance instruction given by Yaya Rodriguez and music provided by DJ Franklin Condori. Free and open to all, no experience or dance partner required to participate. Wednesday, August 24, 6-8 PM at Lynch Park, 55 Ober St., Beverly. *In case of rain, event will move to the park’s Carriage House.

 

SAXYN/DanceWorks and Alison Cook-Beatty Dance, two New York-based contemporary dance companies present new works in progress and selections from repertory at Windhover Center for the Performing Arts. A Q&A session will take place after each performance Thursday, August 25 and Friday, August 26 at 7:30 PM.

The African Festival of Boston, a massive multi-cultural celebration featuring the best of the African arts and culture, brings along the sights and sounds of Africa. While in residence at The Yard in Chilmark, Ephrat Asherie Dance presents a preview of their new work UNDERSCORED. Created and performed by members of the company with special guest artists from New York City’s underground scene, it is inspired by the intergenerational memories of club dancers. Saturday, August 27, 7-8 PM, The Yard.

 

Subject:Matter on the Hill is back! Join the inventive tap ensemble for a performance of “Blowout” on Sunday, August 28 at 5 PM at Arts on the Hill, Lincoln Rd, Wayland.  Bring a blanket and some chairs for lawn seating. Drinks and light refreshments will be available.

 

This week at Jacob’s Pillow catch Miami City Ballet at the Ted Shawn Theatre. The Perles Family Studio will be the stage for a performance by dancer with disabilities Kayla Hamilton. Also enjoy Ladies of Hip Hop Dance Collective, local dancers of Boston Dance Theater and YYDC at the outdoor Henry J. Leir Stage.

Boston Dance Theater (BDT) seeks a Company Dancer for immediate hire. BDT is looking for an experienced male or non-binary BIPOC dancer to join the main company’s fall season.

 

The National Leaders of Color Fellowship is a leadership development program for Black, Indigenous and people of color leaders who are committed to the advancement of cultural equity in the arts. Using a cohort structure, the program emphasizes experiential learning, community building, and service to the field. The program is a partnership between Western States Arts Federation and the other U.S. regional arts organizations, including New England Foundation for the Arts. Apply by Wednesday, August 31.

 

Bharata Kalanjali is delighted to present the second edition of Jharna, a festival dedicated to the arts. This festival is curated with the objective of providing a platform to emerging artists in Bharatanaatyam and across art forms. Mixed in-person and virtual activities. The Greenway Conservancy’s Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the Greenway Dance Series is now open and accepting applications! The Greenway Conservancy is partnering with Peter DiMuro on a major new dance project that will develop, present, and document four site-specific works by local choreographers of diverse ages, races, ethnicities, and dance genres. They are seeking two choreographers/companies to join Public Displays of Motion and Jean Appolon Expressions. Each company will present an original work in a series of fall 2023 performances. Given the specific histories represented on The Greenway, they are particularly interested in working with choreographers/companies of Indigenous, Native, AAPI, Black, and other marginalized backgrounds/experiences.  Deadline Wednesday, September 14, 5 PM.
