Happy New Year, BDA Friends!

As we dance into 2024, we wanted to take a moment to highlight some numbers from 2023 that reflect the reach and impact of Boston Dance Alliance’s programs.

Over 329 listings were added to our website and sent out in our weekly newsletter, covering performances, workshops, auditions, and jobs, as well as space rentals

49 fiscal sponsorships were provided to dancers and dance-makers.

$324,140.80 raised for fiscal sponsees

200 people attended our gala, which honored 3 dance champions

36 dancers attended Dancer Health Day, where they received free health check-ups

19 choreographers and artistic directors came to observe and hire at our Open Call Audition—and it was our second year in a row of making it accessible and inclusive for people with disabilities

52 registrations for auditions and master classes

2,527 individuals who receive our weekly newsletter covering dance classes, workshops, auditions

This year Boston Dance Alliance marks its 30th anniversary, and we’re formulating some exciting plans to celebrate this major milestone.  In the meantime, please enjoy the first edition of our weekly newsletter for 2024.

BDA Member Events This Week

FREE! – Urbanity’s 1180 Washington Street location is reopening with an Open House on Sunday, January 7 to celebrate the newly renovated space. Ages 1-100 are welcome to take a variety of free sample classes starting at 10:30 AM until 3:15 PM. You are alos invited to make your mark on the new mural being painted by Nick Papa.

 

Other events in the community this week:
Stream Martha Graham Dance Company through Jacob’s Pillow on DemandJanuary 8–February 4 for $15. This new film of the full-length 2023 festival performance features the company’s performance of Errand into the Maze (1947), Cave of the Heart (1946), and Hofesh Shechter’s CAVE (2022).

Embark on a virtual 3-week Gaga Journey, January 10-31 and discover their physical dictionary, the key words that reflect both Ohad Naharin’s most up-to-date research and key concepts which have been part the practice for years.

Dancers ages 7-18 are encouraged to join North Atlantic Ballet’s upcoming production of Alice in WonderlandPerforming at The Cabot Theater in Beverly, MA, NAB has 3 shows April 27 & 28. Rehearsals will run on Saturdays and Sundays depending on role, starting February 4th in their Everett studios. Auditions will take place on Sunday, January 7, 1:00-1:45 PM (ages 7-10), 2:00-2:45 PM (ages 11-13), 3:00-4:00 PM (ages 14+) at 38 Norman St., Everett, MA.

The deadline to apply for the 2024 MAKE iT / SHARE iT / SHOW iT (aMaSSiT) Lab cohort is today, January 3aMaSSiT is a program developed at The Dance Complex over the last 8 years and continues to adapt to the needs of dance and other creative makers. A cohort of artists are selected through an application process and can expect to learn valuable tools, culminating in a public sharing/showing.

The Click invites you to The Repertory Experience. Complimenting their Community Contemporary classes, class material will be reworked to build a dance in the private choreography rehearsal following open class.
