A big thank you to everyone who participated in this past Friday’s Fall into Dance event, which convened nearly 65 dance presenters, dance professionals, and dance enthusiasts from the greater Boston area. Co-hosted by Boston Dance Alliance (BDA) and The Dance Complex, the gathering featured a dance class & performance, small bites & beverages, and a presentation of dance performances & events happening now through early next year. While BDA will be highlighting them in our weekly newsletters, we also invite you to submit your upcoming dance performances & events via this online form.
Boston Dance Alliance is excited to announce a new, FREE dance series called “International Moves & Groves” in partnership with The Esplanade Association that’s happening Wednesday evenings in October across from the Hatch Memorial Shell. For more info and to register for the free sessions, each of which consist of an hour-long class in an internationally-rooted dance form followed by a chance to enjoy some food from the same part of the world, please click here. BDA Member Events This Week
Learn Yiddish Dance this Fall at RUACH. In each class you’ll explore a new piece of traditional repertoire, from Freylekhs and Bulgars to Zhoks, Khosidls, maybe even some Shers. Whether you’re new to movement or have previous dance experience, these dances are for everyone and this class welcomes all ages and abilities. Rachel Linsky will be teaching classes every Monday from 5:15-6:15 PM, and Hadar Ahuvia will be teaching every Wednesday from 5:15-6:15 PM, at the Newton Collaborative Jewish Campus, 1860 Washington St., Newton. FREE! – Join Boston Dance Alliance and the Esplanade Association for a new fall program celebrating cultural dancing: International Moves & Food. Every Wednesday in October, 5 PM at the Fiedler Field, you can learn the steps to various cultural dances at these interactive demonstrations led by professional artist educators. Each class will have a different dance to learn, so each night will be a unique experience in the park. After you learned some new steps, you can enjoy free food and beverages from a local restaurant, all celebrating the dance’s culture! Join one (or many) of the below:

detritus dance presents Malefica, which explores the scapegoating of women and gender nonconforming people and the oppression of their bodies in contemporary culture. Experience an evening with detritus dance, featuring performers Claire Lane, Caroline Bradbury, Gabriela M. Amy-Moreno, Marcel Santiago Marcelino, and Laila J. Franklin. Carmen S. Rizzo opens the performance season at The Dance Complex with Unchosen. This series of short choreographic projects shines a light on moments and lifetimes of being neglected. While each segment was choreographed separately and with different intentions, they come together for an evening of showcasing various facets of being unchosen. Enjoy an evening of contemporary dance by women choreographers and fall into the journey of acceptance, self-discovery, intimacy, neglect and support. Discover the joy of dance through Boston Ballet’s SchoolAdult Dance Weekend Intensive. You will experience a large range of styles, repertoire from your favorite ballets, and receive individual feedback from our expert faculty. Workshops for all levels of experience: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Boston Dance Theater presents Pinnacle Works, a diverse range of repertory choreographed by Itzik Galili, Marco Goecke, and Alessandro Sousa Pereira. Friday, October 4, 7-9 PM, at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, 98 Hayden Rowe St., Hopkinton. Tickets: $25-$30.
The Multicultural Arts Center presents love: Black Boy Unseen, by Dalin Celamy, inaugural Artist in Residency. Centering on queer black male love, Celamy’s residency project delves into the complexities of love in its various forms—friendships, partnerships, family, and self-love—drawing from his own experiences navigating masculinity and expressions of love. Don’t miss this rich, immersive experience that transcends individual art forms, connecting themes of love and masculinity within a Haitian identity. FREE! – Join the Folk Arts Center of New England in A Foggy Day in Concord Town, an afternoon with festivities includinig Ritual and Colonial dance performances, followed by participatory English and International dancing for all, with well-known Boston area leaders and musicians. Lost and Found is a layered (literally and figuratively), interdisciplinary evening length performance. In their second dance-fashion collaboration, choreographer Eliza Malecki and stylist Mary O’Keefe have come together to create and produce a dance fashion show featuring professional dancers and models wearing entirely secondhand clothing that celebrates the personal histories attached to our clothing and examines the complex emotions wrapped up in the act of getting dressed in the morning. Saturday, October 5, 7:30 PM at Boston Figurative Art Center (285 Washington St., Somerville) & Sunday, October 6, 4:00 PM at The New Art Center (61 Washington Park, Newton). Tickets: $12-$50.
Join the Arlington Community Barn Dance, including dances in circles, squares, and lines – both easy and fun! Dances are led by a caller, who teaches every dance. It’s a community event – dancers of every age are welcome; singles, couples, and families. No previous dance experience necessary. Sunday, October 6, 3-5 PM, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 74 Pleasant Street, Arlington (enter on Lombard Road). Tickets: pay what you can. Repeats every first Sunday of the month through May, 2025.
Joy and hope are elusive states that require nurturing through conscious healing practices. In this Mythosomatic Qigong for Hope and Joy workshop, participants will experience gentle spiritual movements grounded in traditional Chinese medicine. The IMMUNITY Qigong form will be taught as a means to resolve emotional blockages so participants can experience more joy and hope in their lives. Abilities Dance is centered on promoting intersectional disability rights and they are seeking dance teaching artists. Their Community Engagement program teaches Adaptive Dance classes to multicultural communities in Greater Boston, valuing social/emotional/physical wellness over technique readiness. Celebrity Series has a new temporary Project Manager position opening up. They are looking for an organized, dynamic, and well-connected individual to take on the role of Project Manager, Ailey Revelations Celebration.
OnStage Dance Company seeks experienced dancers and emerging choreographers to join their company. Performances feature a wide range of styles including Contemporary, Classical Jazz, Commercial Jazz, Tap, Modern, Musical Theater and Pop. They have also shared work in Hip Hop, Poi, Step, Hoop, Bollywood, and Latin styles. OnStage produces two performance seasons per year (Spring and Winter), rehearsing for 10-12 weeks leading to show day. They also offer dance film opportunities. Auditions for choreographers happen Friday, October 4 & Saturday, October 5 at Arts at the Armory, 191 Highland St., Somerville. Audition for dancers happens this Sunday, October 6, 3:00-7:30 PM, at Mass Motion, 100 Holton St., Brighton.
