Art on the Plaza ft. A Trike Called Funk
Experience the magic of MassArt Art Museum outdoors during Art on the Plaza, our annual midsummer series featuring live performances, creative activities, and cool treats on select evenings–free fun for the whole family! From 6-9pm on Thursday August 20, @atrikecalledfunk is back outside of @maamboston to bring you a special “Works & Words on the Street” edition of “Art on the Plaza.”
Expect a fun-filled participatory mix of movement & music plus graffiti-inspired art & activities plus cool treats. Free for ery-buddy! See below for more info on the haps & artists, yo!
PERFORMANCES
YOUR CHANCE TO DANCE: Get down to the funky sounds of @atrikecalledfunk and learn some old school Hip Hop party steps from @ms5678dancersreport (7:00-730pm class).
“I GOT A STORY TO TELL” MC EXPERIENCE: Witness the lyrical brilliance of U.S. Ambassador of Hip Hop & Cultural Exchange and Hip Hop Educator, Activist, & MC @jazzmynred (7:30-8:00pm set).
ACTIVITIES
“IF JOHN HANCOCK HAD SIDEWALK CHALK:” Grab some sidewalk chalk and add your one-of-a kind signature to an enormous “Hello My Name Is” tag laid down on one corner of the plaza grounds.
PORTRAITS FOR THE PEOPLE: Take home a free portrait / caricature of you by the illustrious @caricaturesbyalejandro or @artofclairebear . Renderings done on a first come – first serve basis in 10 minute increments.
WILD THANGS FREE-RANGE PAINTING: Grab a brush and add a splash of color to giant pages from @jbeasly183 ‘“Art of Empty Spaces” coloring book where coloring outside the lines is just fine.
GRAFF LETTERS & CHARACTERS MAKING STATION: Learn & try basic graff letter & caricature techniques from @gncrew_boston artists & “Inspire Thru Art” Co-Founders @take1r.gn & @gofive .
INSPIRATION VIA ILLUMINATION: Marvel at the animated projections of @illuminus who will make local graff writers’ tags dance on the facade of @maamboston .
POP-UP OUTDOOR ART GALLERY: View a cross-section of colorful pieces from @atrikecalledfunk ‘s Community Art Collection while listening to highlights from each of the artists’ oral histories.
