When your body is your instrument, it is crucial to keep it healthy!

Boston Dance Alliance hosts our annual Dancer Health Day where some of the region’s most experienced dance medicine professionals provide wellness checks for dancers of all ages and genres.

The clinician team is led by Lauren Elson, MD, of the Mass General Brigham department of Dance and Performing Arts Medicine. Registrants will be assessed for overall wellness and get personalized tips, exercises, and referrals to help dancers stay their healthiest.

NEW THIS YEAR: Speed Talks

In addition to personal wellness checks, this year’s event will include a variety of quick presentations from various clinicians surrounding dance-specific topics. These speed talks are meant to provide dancers with quick, digestible, and relevant information that can provide clarity on some of the mysteries of dancer health, encouraging dancers to hone in on critical elements of a healthy movement practice.

Topics include:

  • Fueling: Pre-Dance vs Post-Dance
  • Shoulder Mobility to Manage Low Back Pain
  • Sleep Habits to Improve Dance Performance
  • Hypermobility and Dance Tools
  • Core and Glute Strengthening

What to Expect

Individual wellness checks are 30 minute screenings designed to evaluate a participant’s strengths and weaknesses with tangible steps for healthy improvements. Dancers are asked to arrive about 15 minutes before their scheduled slot to complete check-in before the start of the screening.

Speed talks will occur once every hour, so make sure to stick around after your screening or stop by a bit early to catch a presentation.

Registration

Registration is required for wellness checks. BDA members and Dance Complex members receive free access to the event. Those without membership in either of these areas can participate for a small $10 fee.

Participants should wear form-fitting attire that is easy to move in.

Dancer Health Day is open to dancers of any genre, age, and skill level, from beginners to professionals.

Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to invest in your physical longevity and step into your dance practice with increased confidence!
