Dance for Social Justice
A community-based dance theater workshop rooted in connection and social change.
Dance for Social Justice™ is a community-based, process-centered dance workshop that explores movement as a shared language for reflection, dialogue, and creative response to social justice issues affecting our communities. Participants build connection and solidarity through guided movement exploration, group collaboration, and intentional discussion.
Through a facilitated dance composition process, participants explore basic elements of dance to collectively create original movement pieces rooted in lived experience. Movement is self-generated, following a “for us, by us” approach that centers participants as authors of their own stories. The workshop is accompanied by live music, deepening the embodied and communal experience.
This two-hour workshop serves as a sample of the Dance for Social Justice™ curriculum, which is typically facilitated over a 5–6 week period. An optional informal showing, followed by a reflective discussion and Q&A, brings the session to a close.
