KAIROS Masterclass: Improvisation, Listening, and Embodied Creative Process
Join KAIROS Dance Theater for a movement master class introducing participants to the creative practices at the heart of the KAIROS process. Led by Artistic Director/Choreographer DeAnna Pellecchia this class is offered in conjunction with the company’s premiere at the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston presented by Global Arts Live.
Open to dancers of all levels and anyone interested in improvisation, embodied awareness, and creative process, this community-centered class offers a guided progression of warm-up, improvisational exploration, and structured creative scores. Participants will work with breath, sensation, imagery, and relational awareness as entry points for generating movement and developing presence in the body.
Participants will also have the opportunity to improvise with the fabric used in KAIROS’s work husk/vessel, exploring how material can function as an active partner in movement. Through guided prompts and improvisational scores, dancers will experiment with weight, resistance, shape, and spatial relationship—discovering how body and fabric influence one another in real time.
Rather than learning set choreography, the class focuses on the generative practices used by KAIROS dancers to develop movement material, emphasizing curiosity, responsiveness, and collective presence within the room.
Participants should come prepared to move, listen deeply, and engage with others in a shared process of attention, curiosity, and creative exchange.
